Elements of Vastu Shastra
Vastu means: Abode and Shastra means: Science. The principles of Vastu aims at harmonizing man made Materials and Nature. This particular process of science- unifying the five elements ‘Panchbhootas’ (earth, fire, water, sky and space) with art, astronomy and astrology with a focus to achieve enlightenment, happiness and prosperity can also be referred as “Ancient mystic science of architecture”.
Five elements
Universe possesses an ample of beneficial energies, which, if tackled well and balanced properly can certainly result into a state of well-being and happiness. The Panchbhootas (five elements) and the electro-magnetic energy produced by the earth’s rotation are the two crucial forces responsible for energy generation. Earth
The maximum amount of energy exertion is from earth itself. Consultation on the land you are purchasing, plot’s soil, area everything has a significance in Vastu. A detailed inspection is required for and from every perspective before commencing the construction.
Water
The second most significant element in Vastu exists in the form of rain, ocean, sea and rivers. Water being an element of North-East, needs appropriate direction for placement of its sources. The water decor, aquarium, pools, fountains should be placed in NE as it’s the most auspicious direction for water, also the domestic outlet of water should also be North-East only.
Fire
Fire refers to light, and Vastu Shastra helps to bring out a similar effect in individuals life. It is an element of SE (south-east) direction, therefore, fireplace, house kitchen fire or electrical gadgets shall be placed in the same direction. The basis of thermal, atomic and all other sources of energy is certainly FIRE. As sun is the natural source of light and energy there has to appropriate ventilation for the energy and light to enter the house to benefit people in their daily lives.
Air
Air is the most significant and necessary element for the survival of living beings. It holds a similar importance in Vastu as well. As per vastu science, air is a mixture of a variety of gases like nitrogen, oxygen, helium, hydrogen, etc. Thus, an appropriate percentage and balance of all these gases with humidity levels is important for life forms on earth. Air is a NE element, vastu considers important directions for windows and doors to enter the premises- as air represents a cheerful, amiable, gentle, neat, courteous and perceptive environment.
Space
“Brahmnad” or the ‘universe’ is known as the place of God. The limitless space(sky) is full of constellation, galaxies, star, moon, sun and the planets. As per Vastu Shastra, different direction for better space plays a crucial role in our lives. The “bramhastan” i.e., akash should be an open place, as the old Indian houses used to have. Any sort of disorder related to space in any place of residence would lead to detrimental results.
